How to use it

  1. Pick the closest template or paste existing PlantUML.
  2. Edit the text; the preview updates about a second later, and errors are marked in the image.
  3. Download SVG for documents and web pages or PNG to share; a share link sends the diagram with its source for others to edit.

Frequently asked questions

What is PlantUML?

PlantUML is an open-source tool that draws diagrams from plain text: one line such as "Buyer → Sales : RFQ" becomes a sequence message. Text lives in Git, docs and tickets, is faster to edit than drag-and-drop, and diffs cleanly.

Are my diagrams stored or published?

No. For the preview the source is sent to this site's server, rendered and discarded, never stored or logged; PlantUML runs in sandbox mode with no file or network access. Share links carry the compressed source inside the link, visible only to people you send it to.

Why do Chinese text and PNG exports look right?

The preview and SVG use your browser's fonts, and PNG is drawn in the browser from the SVG at 2× resolution, so Chinese, Japanese and other scripts never turn into boxes.

Can I !include external files?

For security, local files and URLs cannot be included; the bundled standard library works, such as the C4 library (C4/C4_Container) and icon sets like AWS.

PlantUML online editor practical guide and common questions

What does a PlantUML online editor do?

The source is sent to this site's server and rendered to SVG by PlantUML 1.2024 in sandbox mode, with no access to server files, the network or environment variables, and discarded afterwards; diagrams that need Graphviz (class, use case and so on) use the bundled Smetana layout engine.

Who is this for, and when is it useful?

Product managers, engineers, operations and export teams writing proposals, SOPs, API docs and system designs who need sequence, flow, class or Gantt diagrams in their documents.

How do I use this PlantUML online editor?

Pick a template or paste PlantUML, watch the preview update as you type, download SVG or a 2× PNG, and copy a share link that carries the diagram and its source.

How should I interpret the results?

Output matches official PlantUML except that local files and URLs cannot be included; the standard library (C4, AWS icons and more) works. PNG is drawn from the SVG in your browser, so fonts depend on your computer.

Where is the work performed, and which services receive data?

For the preview the PlantUML source goes to this site's server and is rendered without being stored or logged; share links keep the source inside the link itself.
