Make the assumptions explicit before using the numbers
Estimate purchasing, exchange, freight, insurance, duty and VAT. Compare FOB, CIF and DDP quotes while separating cash outlay from economic cost. Enter your own rates and tax bases; no registration required.
The page starts with example results. Replace assumptions with your actual business inputs, check duplicate costs, outside dimensions and confirmed dates, then share the summary with your team. Calculations stay in your browser; no live rates, tax rules, sailings or AI are queried automatically.
Frequently asked questions
What does this landed cost calculator estimate?
It combines your purchasing, origin costs, ocean freight, insurance, destination charges, clearance, delivery, duty and VAT assumptions. It shows FOB, CIF and DDP cost bases and target quotes. Defaults are educational examples, not country-specific tax or forwarder rates.
Can FOB, CIF and DDP be used for any transport mode?
This page assumes ocean transport. ICC limits FOB and CIF to sea and inland waterway transport. Air, multimodal and pre-loading container handover may require rules such as FCA or CIP under the contract. For DDP, verify the seller can legally fulfill destination import obligations. Cost groups do not replace a trade contract or risk-transfer terms.
How do I enter duty and VAT without double counting?
Verify the rates and tax bases yourself. When blank, duty uses estimated cost CIF, while VAT uses that base plus duty and destination, clearance and delivery costs. This editable example is not a worldwide tax rule. If a cost is already included in purchasing, freight or a tax base, set the duplicate item to zero or enter the verified base directly.
Who should use export quote and margin estimates?
B2B sales, sourcing, ecommerce operations and finance teams can discuss one transparent set of assumptions. Source costs are converted using your rate; international and destination costs are entered in quote currency. Fees and tax rates are not fetched online.
Is recoverable VAT profit?
No. Marking VAT recoverable means you have confirmed it is a cash advance excluded from economic cost. It still has to be funded. Eligibility, evidence, timing and recovery depend on applicable rules. The report retains cash requirements including VAT and does not treat recovery as new profit.
When should I requote, and why do unit prices have four decimals?
Recalculate when exchange, freight, taxes, quantity or contract terms change. Money totals round to 0.01. Purchase unit prices keep four decimals. The target quote rounds upward to 0.01, then unit price upward to 0.0001; the final total is unit price times quantity rounded to 0.01. Validity is an assumption, not a rate or transport guarantee.
