Make the assumptions explicit before using the numbers

Work backward from receipt to materials, production, QA, cutoff waiting, transit, customs, last-mile delivery and buffer. Use business or calendar days, custom weekends and holidays.

The page starts with example results. Replace assumptions with your actual business inputs, check duplicate costs, outside dimensions and confirmed dates, then share the summary with your team. Calculations stay in your browser; no live rates, tax rules, sailings or AI are queried automatically.

Frequently asked questions

What does this delivery backward planner help with?

Start with the customer’s desired receipt date and specify materials, production, QA, cutoff waiting, transit, customs, last-mile and buffer durations. The planner shows latest starts and finishes and the latest order date. Default durations are examples, not factory or route schedules.

How are business and calendar days counted?

The starting date is excluded. Each subsequent step forward or backward counts one eligible day. Calendar days count every day; business days skip your weekend and holiday settings. If a business-stage deadline falls on a non-working day, it first moves earlier to an eligible day. That gap is reported so the stage can be reproduced by calculating forward.

Who should use production and logistics milestone planning?

Order operations, B2B sales, factory planners, sourcing and project managers can review a critical sequence before making commitments. Each stage chooses business or calendar days independently, and buffer is explicit so teams can identify assumptions needing supplier confirmation.

When does the latest order date show as overdue?

It is overdue when the calculated latest order date is earlier than the comparison date you enter. Reconsider the target, controllable durations or resources with suppliers. The tool does not assume expediting is feasible or replace factory and carrier confirmation.

Where do I set weekends and holidays?

Select non-working weekdays and enter holidays as YYYY-MM-DD, one per line or separated by spaces or commas. Maintain this list yourself; no national calendar is applied automatically. Keep at least one workday each week. Up to 500 holidays and 365 days per stage are supported.

Why are date calculations independent of local time and daylight saving?

This is date planning. Calculations use UTC date-only integers so 23- or 25-hour daylight-saving days do not change day counts. The planner does not simulate shifts, sailings, flights, cutoff times or customs release. Results support planning discussions and are not delivery guarantees.

delivery date calculator practical guide and common questions

What does a delivery date calculator do?

Backward planning starts at the required arrival date and subtracts the production, port, transport and customs durations entered to identify the latest start.

Who is this for, and when is it useful?

Sales and production planners coordinating arrival, manufacturing and shipping before promising dates.

How do I use this delivery date calculator?

Set the arrival date and each stage in business or calendar days, add holidays, and inspect the backward timeline, latest order date and buffers.

How should I interpret the results?

Verify business versus calendar days, endpoints and holidays. This is not a sailing schedule; confirm delivery place, actual cutoffs and uncertainty buffers with service providers.

Where is the work performed, and which services receive data?

Dates, stages and holidays are scheduled in your browser without reading a company calendar or querying a shipping line. You control copying and downloading.
