Transform product photos from usable to crisp and complete

An e-commerce product image for an independent site often requires cropping, spot retouching, size normalization, and text layout at the same time. This online image editor combines these operations into a single workspace: preview compositing on the main canvas, select tools on the left, and manage layers and properties on the right. Images are processed entirely inside the current browser without installing software or creating an account.

  1. Open an image or create a blank canvas:Import PNG, JPEG, WebP, or the first frame of a GIF. To create a collage, use '+ Image' to add more layers.
  2. Adjust composition first, then make touch-ups:Select crop aspect ratio; use the move tool to adjust layer position and size, and rotate or flip the canvas if necessary.
  3. Organize your design using layers:Add text, rectangles, or ellipses, and adjust fill, stroke, and opacity. Moving up or down determines which layer covers the front.
  4. Choose a suitable format to export:Choose PNG or WebP for transparent images; photos can use JPEG with adjusted quality. Export multiplier changes final pixel dimensions.

Eraser: Erase pixels instead of painting white over them

The eraser reduces pixel transparency on the selected layer. Without a bottom layer, erased areas display a transparent checkerboard; with a bottom layer, underlying content shows through. Adjust tip size, edge hardness, and opacity to handle fine edge details, smooth transitions, or large areas respectively. Both brush and eraser operate only on the current pixel layer to easily preserve other design elements.

Text and shapes are independent editable layers. To erase part of them, rasterize first and then use the eraser tool. Rasterized text can no longer be edited character by character, but you can undo to restore it. This tool provides manual touch-ups and does not include AI background removal.

How do layers, color adjustments, and transparent backgrounds work together?

Each layer can be individually renamed, hidden, locked, duplicated, reordered, and assigned opacity. Add a drawing layer first when drawing separately. Adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, grayscale, or blur for product photos does not require changing titles and shapes at the same time. Text and shapes set their own colors; brush colors are used for pixel drawing. Transparent areas are represented by a checkerboard in the editor and retain transparency when exporting PNG or WebP; JPEG exports fill transparent areas with the selected background color.

Save project to allow future edits

Export image for publishing, or save project to continue editing. 'Save Project' downloads a .xunl.json file that preserves layers, editable text, shapes, transforms, color adjustments, and pixel contents. Reload it later via 'Open Project' to resume editing. Project files do not store undo history and are not automatically saved to the server; store your files in a trusted location.

Hidden layers are also saved in the project, so project files may contain content not visible in final images. Check visible layers before exporting and inspect all layers before sharing projects. Maximum project size is 96 MiB, up to 24 layers, with total pixel layers capped at 24 million pixels; image file import remains capped at 40 MiB.

Viewport scaling only changes the viewing ratio during editing. 'Fit to Canvas' displays the entire document, while export dimensions remain determined by document pixel size. Mobile users can utilize the layer and property panels below the canvas; zooming in is recommended for fine adjustments.

Scope of Lightweight Photo Editor

Ideal for standard product images, social graphics, partial transparency touch-ups, and simple layer layouts. The workspace uses your browser's RGB pixel canvas and device system fonts. You can save XunL JSON project files to continue editing, but PSD compatibility is not supported. Complex print workflows, PSD files, CMYK color management, and professional selection masks still require dedicated software. Large images are subject to file size and workspace pixel limits—avoid consuming excessive memory in a single editing session.

Frequently asked questions

Will my images be uploaded to the server?

No. Image decoding, layer compositing, erasing, color adjustments, and exports are performed inside the current browser without submitting images to this site. The page retains site ads, which may access their own network services; ads do not participate in image editing. Closing or refreshing the page will end the session, so please export images or save project files promptly.

How do I remove a plain background from a product image?

Select the product image, choose Color wand, set tolerance and click the background. By default only connected similar colors are masked; disable Contiguous to match similar pixels across the layer. Refine with Hide mask and recover mistakes with Restore mask. Plain backgrounds work best. Hair, glass and translucent subjects require manual refinement; this is color matching, not AI subject detection.

How is a mask different from the eraser?

The eraser changes pixels directly. Hide mask only hides them while preserving the source image. Restore hidden areas with Restore mask or remove the mask. Masks follow layer transformations and are saved in the editable project, allowing repeated product-image refinements.

What is the difference between image size and canvas size?

Image resize scales every layer. Canvas resize keeps layer sizes and extends or crops the visible area around an anchor. Trim transparent edges tightens the canvas around visible composite pixels; a fully transparent document keeps its dimensions. Export PNG or WebP to preserve transparency.

How do I use the eraser? Why can't text layers be erased directly?

Select the target image or drawing layer in the layer panel first, then select eraser to adjust size, hardness, and opacity. It erases pixel transparency on the current layer, revealing underlying content. Text and shapes must be rasterized first; this step can also be undone. The eraser will not automatically recognize background.

What images are supported? How large are files and canvas?

Import PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF up to 40 MiB per file. Sources are limited to 40 million pixels and 20,000 pixels per side; only the first GIF frame is edited. Working images are normalized to 12 million pixels and 8,192 pixels per side, so large sources may be reduced. The editor supports 24 layers with a shared 24-million-pixel budget for raster images and masks. The color wand supports up to 6 million pixels per raster layer; resize and rasterize larger images first. Export size and available editing capacity are also bounded.

Can it be used as an online Photoshop alternative?

Suitable for product image cropping, transparent pixel trimming, text layout, layer composition, basic color adjustment, and social media graphics—usable as a lightweight Photoshop alternative. It currently uses the browser's RGB pixel canvas, does not read PSD layers, does not provide CMYK print color management, and does not offer AI auto-clipping.

How should I choose between PNG, JPEG, and WebP?

PNG is ideal for preserving transparent backgrounds, text, and graphics. JPEG is best for photos and fills transparent areas with the selected background color upon export. WebP suits web images that require smaller file sizes while preserving transparency. Quality can be adjusted for JPEG and WebP; actual file size depends on image content, dimensions, and browser encoders.

Which actions can Undo restore?

Editing actions including layer modifications, brush and eraser strokes, cropping, transforms, and color adjustments are all recorded in this session's undo history. Press Ctrl / ⌘ + Z to undo, and Ctrl / ⌘ + Shift + Z to redo. Undo history is managed within a maximum memory budget of 96 MiB; older records may be discarded. Undo history is not auto-saved and cannot be restored after refreshing the page, nor is it saved within project files.

How do I create a product image for an e-commerce store?

Import product photos first and crop to target ratio, use color adjustments to improve lighting, then add text or shape layers. Select the image layer when local transparent touch-ups are needed, working gradually with a smaller soft-edge eraser; finally export according to platform-required sizes. Check file size further in the image compression tool and verify display effects on the target page.

How do I save layers to resume editing later?

Click "Save Project" to download the .xunl.json file, then restore layers, text, shapes, transforms, and pixel content via "Open Project". Project files are limited to 96 MiB and up to 24 layers, excluding undo history and editor views. Exported PNG, JPEG, or WebP are composite images and cannot be separated back into original text and layers. Projects use XunL's JSON format, saving pixel layers as embedded PNGs without reading remote image links, and are not PSD files. Projects contain restorable pixel content; verify layers before sharing.

Will fonts and final output look identical across different computers?

Fonts default to the system font of the current device; the same font family may render slightly differently across systems. Exported files flatten text into pixels so rendering no longer depends on the recipient's system fonts. Canvas zoom only adjusts your view while editing and does not alter the pixel dimensions of the exported image.

online photo editor practical guide and common questions

What can I edit in this online photo editor?

An online photo editor combines layers, text, shapes and pixel cleanup on a canvas for product artwork or transparent assets.

Who is this for, and when is it useful?

Designers and operators creating product images, transparent PNGs, banners and social graphics.

How do I use layers, the eraser and the color wand?

Open a picture, refine a plain background with masks and the color wand, align text and shapes, save a layered project and export the image.

How should I review masks, transparency and the exported image?

Save an editable project before exporting the publishing image. Inspect mask edges, type and transparency; a color wand selects similar colors rather than understanding objects like AI segmentation.

Where is the work performed, and which services receive data?

Layers, masks, erasing, color-wand selection and export run on the browser canvas. Selected pictures and projects are not uploaded for editing.
