How to make a dynamic QR code
- Sign in and create a short link in the short URL tool (title and expiry optional).
- Paste the short link below, style it with colours, logo and frame, then download.
- Later, change the destination and see daily scans under Short links in the console.
QR code content formats
A QR code only stores text; the phone decides what to do from its format. Use the right format and a scan joins WiFi, saves a contact or opens WhatsApp directly.
| Type | Format | After scanning |
|---|---|---|
| URL | https://… | Opens a web page; the most common type |
| WiFi | WIFI:T:WPA;S:…;P:…;; | Joins the network straight from the camera on Android and iOS |
| vCard contact | BEGIN:VCARD … END:VCARD | Saves a contact; good for business cards and trade shows |
| mailto:…?subject=… | Opens a new email with the subject filled in | |
| SMS | SMSTO:number:text | Opens a text message with the content filled in |
| Phone | tel:+86… | Starts a call |
| https://wa.me/86…?text=… | Opens a WhatsApp chat; popular with overseas buyers | |
| Location | geo:lat,lng | Opens the coordinates in a map |
| Event | BEGIN:VEVENT … | Adds a calendar event; good for fairs and launches |
Choosing the error correction level
Higher levels survive more damage or covering, at the cost of a denser pattern. A logo covers the middle, so the studio switches to level H automatically.
| Level | Recovers about | Use for |
|---|---|---|
| L | 7% | Long content, clean print, no logo |
| M | 15% | Default; most URLs and cards |
| Q | 25% | Outdoor and packaging that may wear |
| H | 30% | Required when a logo sits in the middle |
QR code print size guide
Rule of thumb: the code should be about one tenth of the scanning distance and no smaller than 2 cm. Longer content means denser modules and a larger print; test with two or three phones before printing.
| Where | Scan distance | Code size |
|---|---|---|
| Business card, flyer | 20–30 cm | 2–3 cm |
| Packaging, manual | 30–50 cm | 3–5 cm |
| Booth poster | 1–2 m | 10–20 cm |
| Billboard, vehicle | 5–10 m | 50–100 cm |
Frequently asked questions
Dynamic vs static QR codes?
A static code stores the URL itself and cannot change after printing. A dynamic code stores a short link that redirects, so you can change the destination and count scans; if the short link is disabled, the code stops working.
Do the QR codes expire?
No. These are static codes: the content is inside the code, never routed through our servers, valid forever with unlimited scans. Use a dynamic QR code if you need to change the destination or count scans.
Can I use them commercially?
Yes: free, no watermark, commercial use allowed. Your logo is composed in your browser and never uploaded.
