How to use Color Contrast Checker

Try a concrete example

Compare a brand-colored button with white and dark text before choosing its label color.

How to interpret results

Contrast uses the entered colors and standard relative luminance calculations. Text size, weight, states and the complete interface still need accessibility review. Passing one color pair does not establish overall compliance.

Frequently asked questions

Does passing color contrast satisfy all accessibility requirements?

Not fully. Keyboard navigation, semantic tags, focus indicators, and alt text are also required.

What counts as large text?

WCAG large text generally refers to approximately 18pt or 14pt bold and above, depending on font rendering.

Is transparent color supported?

Opaque HEX values are currently required. Please calculate the actual blended color first.

color contrast checker practical guide and common questions

What does a color contrast checker do?

Color contrast measures the luminance difference between text and its background to assess a particular color pair's readability.

Who is this for, and when is it useful?

Designers and frontend developers checking text against its background.

How do I use this color contrast checker?

Enter foreground and background colors, inspect the contrast ratio and applicable text criteria, then verify actual font size, weight and states.

How should I interpret the results?

Interpret thresholds using actual type size and weight, then review buttons, focus and states. One passing pair does not establish complete page accessibility.

Where is the work performed, and which services receive data?

Colors and relative luminance are calculated in your browser. No target page is crawled or comprehensively audited.
