How to use Google Discover Readiness Checker

  1. Enter a publicly accessible article URL and click Check Article.
  2. Handle main image size, access, and preview restrictions first, then verify Google actual indexing and image composition.
  3. Download JSON to retain evidence; re-test after fixing main images or SEO plugin settings.

Try a concrete example

Paste a public WordPress article URL. Inspect the measured og:image dimensions and any restrictions on max-image-preview:large.

How to interpret results

This technical check reads initial HTML, headers and at most two image headers. It does not validate full AMP, robots.txt, real indexing, visual quality or relevance. Unmeasured dimensions remain unknown; passing does not guarantee Discover inclusion.

Frequently asked questions

Why should the main image width reach 1200px?

Google Discover recommends high-quality images that are at least 1,200 px wide with over 300,000 total pixels to suit large image previews. Please prioritize clear original assets; enlarging small images only increases pixel count without restoring image detail.

Which image should be checked for the WordPress article?

Check the declared representative image in og:image first, then check the main image in schema.org. Setting a featured image in WordPress does not mean the og:image output by the theme or SEO plugin is the original image; tools detect based on actual page declarations.

Does setting max-image-preview:large guarantee inclusion in Google Discover?

No. Google determines display based on index status, content policies, and user interest. HTTP headers and applicable robots directives are merged, with stricter rules taking precedence; evidence is listed separately by the tool.

Why are image dimensions shown as Unmeasured?

This tool reads only limited image headers. AVIF, SVG, distant JPEG dimensions, timeouts, or access restrictions may prevent measurement. Unmeasured does not mean Google lacks support, nor will it use HTML declared dimensions to fake actual measurements.

Can the backend batch check my configured WordPress sites?

After logging in to the backend, you can select configured websites in professional tools to submit WordPress article diagnosis tasks. The task reads publicly published articles and generates a issue list. The specific article count and quota are subject to backend plan details.

Can it directly upscale images to 1200px or edit articles?

This tool only performs checks and does not modify articles or images. Please update original hero images based on the report, ensure the theme and CDN are not serving smaller versions, and re-check after fixing.

Google Discover checker practical guide and common questions

What does a Google Discover checker do?

A Discover image check inspects accessible article imagery and technical signals that may limit indexing or large previews.

Who is this for, and when is it useful?

Editors and WordPress site owners checking article images before publication.

How do I use this Google Discover checker?

Enter an article URL, inspect accessible images and indexing signals, and verify image quality and relevance on the published page.

How should I interpret the results?

Check clarity, relevance and composition as well as dimensions. A 1200-pixel width is one technical condition; missing measurements and unreviewed content policies cannot establish recommendation eligibility.

Where is the work performed, and which services receive data?

Our server reads the public article and bounded image headers for available dimensions and directives. It does not replace images, edit WordPress or read your Discover traffic.
